CDM3014: Typography Design

Project 1_Letterform and Image
For the start of the course, the professor let students get familiarised with different types of typefaces and catch its form in general images that we could find on the Internet. We simply followed the form of the image and matched with the corresponding ideal image of each typeface, and we elongated the image with the use of typeface.

Project 2_Expressive Words
Based on the understanding of letterforms, students were asked to create our own letterforms to express certain ideas the words imply. Among listed words the professor gave, I chose four words and made a sketch and then completed with Illustrator.

Project 3_Album Cover Design
For this project, students had to apply their own creativity in addition to their usage of proper typeface and typographical considerations to locate the texts within the given canvas. One with Generative AI picture made by Photoshop and the other only with texts and minimal elements such as colours and lines, I made two distinguishable and different album covers.

Project 4_Poster Design
This project was conducted by teams of 2 students. At first, we were given information about the imaginary seminar sessions and we were asked to make a poster for its promotion within the university. At first, I tried to do horizontal sketch but as soon as dummy texts had to be changed into the ones that we actually had to put, it did not look so good. So we decided to stick to my friend’s sketch, and amending the design together, we came up with the final version.
The second one is to choose one of the typographers introduced in the information in the poster. We found that Jan Schichold’s style is attractive and inspiring, so we referenced his style and created several posters and mockups.
