IID1001: Introduction to Information and Interaction Design

Before deciding to majoring in Culture and Design Management (CDM), I took an introductory course for another major Information and Interaction Design (IID). In this class, I learned basic knowledge about design thinking and hone my problem solving skills as a team by conducting various types of user research and several feedback sessions with the professor.

To begin with familiarising the course outline and material, I was required to analyse one of the apps I have been using regarding their usefulness, usability, and affect. This was the foundation to further develop the two projects I had to complete within the semester.

The first project was conducted by a group of two students. I primarily came up with the idea of combining the useful yet not convenient functions that our university offers via various apps scattering such functions, and my friend and I decided to work on RC LIFE that aims to make freshmen's lives better at Songdo International Campus.
We made a mockup images and prototypes of an app featuring a cute character MR. R (in Korean, an egg). We mainly dealt with communication problems students face with their roommates, reserving RC programmes organised by dorm faculty, and reserving seminar room or self-study room seats.

The second project was also a team-basis task. I was a member of a group of six students, and we focused on issues using our classroom Veritas B #308. Analysing the structure of the building and proposing a whole new space plan to the professor and classmates, we could gain positive responses.
As a first time to complete all the process to finish this project, from ideation to creating design output, it offered me opportunities to broaden my perspective on thinking of what design is and be knowledgeable to various user research skills.
